Good morning everybody!
Last week, we finished studying the main aspects about culture and art during the Renaissance. Today, we are going to start to talk about what happened in Spain during this period. 

5. THE EARLY MODERN PERIOD IN SPAIN


First of all, we are going to learn, listen and copy the vocabulary related to this part of the unit: 
CORREGIDOR: representative of the monarchs in the city councils. (Corregidor. Representantes de los reyes en las ciudades). 
SANTA HERMANDAD: institution created to keep order in rural areas. (La Santa Hermandad. Fue una institución que se ha considerado como el antecedente de la Policía o de la Guardia Civil, creada por los Reyes Católicos para mantener en el orden en las zonas rurales). 
INQUISITION: ecclesiastical tribunal, that persecuted false converts (people who converted to Christianity but continued to practise their old religion). (La Santa Inquisición. Fue un tribunal eclesiástico en donde se juzgaban a los conversos y a todos aquellos que se dudaba de que practicaran y creyeran en la fe cristiana). 
BROTHERHOOD: association of several municipalities created to keep order and defend people from the abuses of feudal lords. (Hermandad. Asociación municipal creada para mantener el orden y defender a la población de los abusos de los señores feudales). 
COUNCIL: organ composed of several people who advised the king on different government matters: finance, war, etc. (Consejo: órgano institucional que aconsejaba al monarca en diferentes materias como las finanzas, la guerra, etc). 
5.1. POLITICS
The modern state began in Spain with the reign of the Catholic Monarchs (Isabel of Castilla and Fernando of Aragón), when the Iberial Peninsula began to be governed by a common policy. However, until the 18th century with the arrival of the Bourbon dynasty, Castilla and Aragon continued to be independent kingdoms and even kept their own cortes, laws, languages, coins, and institutions.
