2º A BILINGÜE: CLASE DEL 16 DE ABRIL DE 2020
Good morning everybody!
Last Tuesday, we studied everything about society in medieval Europe and the birth of bourgeoisie. I expect that everything is clear and that you don't have any doubt (if it is the case, do not hesitate to contact to me).
Today, we are going to start to study a very interesting part of History: Daily life in medieval cities. You can find it in from page 132 to 134 of the textbook. Also, you can follow the lesson from 36th to 48th slides of our power point.
First of all, listen and copy on your notebook the vocabulary of this part of the unit:
Convent: place where the nuns of a religious order live together. (Convento).
Chest: large wooden box for storing things. (Cofre).
Parchment: thin sheet of material used for writing, drawing or painting, made from the prepared skin of an animal, usually a sheep or goat. (Pergamino).
Flea: small jumpling insect that feeds on the blood of humans and animals. (Pulga).
Minstrel: medieval singer or musician who sang or recited poetry to music. (Juglar).
As we can see in our cities, medieval cities were organised around the main square, where the main buildings were located: the cathedral and the seat of the council.
Many of these cities were walled and merchandise entering the city was controlled at the city gates. The streets were narrow and were not always paved. There were no pavements.
We have a very good example in Spain in the city of Ávila. Today, you are going to visit this city in Google Maps. Try to find some of the medieval characteristics (at least three of them) that we have just studied: ENLACE.
